This is my 19th year teaching at Concord Academy Petoskey.

I graduated from Hope College with a humanities composite and a music emphasis K - 9.  I received my master's degree from Mary Grove College in the Art of Education.

I received levels 1 - 3 certification in Orff Schulwerk.  That is the teaching program that I use! I received levels 1 -2 certification in Education Through Movement.  That is why my program is called "Music and Movement".

I have taught first grade, music, physical education and Montessori at three other schools prior to joining Concord in 1994.

I have been married for 23 years to Doug Boor and I have two girls.  Mary and Sarah both attended Concord Academy Kindergarten through twelfth grade.  Concord prepared them exceptionally well for life after High School!

This year I teach music and movement to kindergarten through fourth grade students three to five times per week and fifth thru eighth grade drama with Mrs. Stoppel. Singing is a big part of our music education along with many other activities.  Our Orff program uses rhythmic speech, movement, drama, reading, and instruments.  We use a variety of instruments such as untuned percussion, xylophones, metallophones, and glockenspiels.  We use keyboards for two weeks in the first semester and guitars for two weeks in the second semester.  Third and fourth graders play soprano, alto, tenor, and bass recorders!

Every student has the opportunity to perform at a first semester informance, which is an informal performance held at Concord.  They also perform in a second semester production which is either a musical or an amazing, creative performance!  They have the opportunity to perform at big and small sharings which are like show-and-tell type productions held for 150 - 350 members of the student body.

I get to work with 18 fourth through seventh graders for two hours once a week.  The group is called CM&M (Concord Music and Movement).  Our mission is to travel into the local and extended community and teach/share the joy of music!

I feel great joy making music with children at Concord Academy!
